What lies at the interface of data science and biotechnology?
We are living in a remarkable time for biotech. Advances in computational technology, analysis methods, and the availability of large, high-quality datasets have created new opportunities to address challenging problems in the field. These are opportunities to develop better medicines, more accurate diagnostics, personalized health and wellness support, and vastly improve our ability to manipulate the most intricate systems of life. The essence of our situation is neatly captured by the appearance of the reverse portmanteau, "techbio," which emphasizes the growing impact of "tech" on the practices of healthcare and biological research. Data is the connective tissue between the two poles of "bio" and "tech," and it follows that data scientists have a driving role in realizing the full flower of the revolution underway.
The topics covered here will be eclectic, reflecting the broad range of issues confronted by data scientists working in biotech. These data scientists build bridges between technologists, scientists, and strategists. Accordingly, Steelyard Science is all about building conceptual bridges to do meaningful work.
